Itinerary

The trail is located in Lomba de São Pedro, on the north coast of São Miguel island, known for its diversity of landscapes. It begins with a steep descent past hydrangeas, where you can see the first waterfall, the Cascata do Homem. Along the way you will find a wide variety of vegetation and you can marvel at the melody of nature.

As you continue along the trail, you will see the old Moinho do Félix, whose purpose was to produce flour from corn or wheat. Descend towards the stream and come across the Palma da Mão viewpoint, where you will see the second waterfall, Cascata do Teófilo. Continue through a cryptomeria forest, which will lead you to the Cascata da Gruta and its natural pool, the Poço da Truta.

On the last climb up the stairs, discover various springs and green areas where you will find different types of vegetation, including morning glories. At the end of the trail, you will cross the parish past the various fountains and see the local life and activities.

After picnic lunch, visit the emblematic Parque Natural da Ribeira dos Caldeirões with its stunning waterfall, where you can optionally enjoy a refreshing or hot drink. End the day with a stop at the Santa Iria viewpoint.

Note: Depending on the weather conditions and the group’s abilities, the activity may change its order and structure.
