Itinerary
The trail start in the parish of Água D’Alto, on the south coast of São Miguel Island, approximately 25 minutes by car from the city of Ponta Delgada.
Begin the route with an ascent, passing through various pastures, leading you to areas where you can observe different types of vegetation, such as cryptomeria and heather. Along the trail, enjoy panoramic views of the first village on São Miguel Island, Vila Franca do Campo, well-known for its islet.
Then you will pass the water levada, with its beautiful reflections of vegetation, used from ancient times to the present day to transport water. Marvel at untouched nature, majestic mountains, and endemic vegetation, such as heather, until you reach the Lagoa do Fogo.
Lunch will be by the lake shores, allowing you to appreciate the crystal-clear water of one of Portugal’s natural reserves. On the return, experience a steep descent, during which you can admire hydrangeas and enjoy a view of the island’s south coast.
Finish the day by relaxing in a calm spot or by the seaside. Depending on weather conditions, group skills, and participants interests, the guide may suggest various places to visit, including beaches, the Caloura locality, Vila Franca do Campo, or other spots where you can opt for a refreshing or hot drink.
Note: Depending on the weather conditions, the activity may change its order or structure.
