Itinerary

This activity begins in the Furnas, known for its volcanic activity, springs, thermal waters, and its Botanical Garden, the Parque Terra Nostra. The adventure starts with a short journey to Furnas, which takes approximately 45 minutes by car from the city of Ponta Delgada.

Start the morning with a walk, of approximately 1 hour, along the shores of Lagoa das Furnas, near the Ermida da Nossa Sra. das Vitórias, a neo-Gothic construction from the 19th century. You will pass by the Centro de Monitorização e Investigação das Furnas (Monitoring and Research Center of Furnas) and the surrounding area with various leisure zones and ruins of old furnaces used in coal production.

Follow the dirt path, which will lead you to the Caldeiras area. Along the walk, you will be able to see several wooden sculptures. In the Caldeiras area, you will find secondary volcanic activity and also the place where the traditional Azorean dish, the Cozido das Furnas, is prepared. Continue to the parish of Furnas for lunch at a local restaurant and savor the flavors of Cozido das Furnas.

After a short break, visit the Caldeiras Vulcânicas to observe closely and learn various stories and legends of the fumarolic fields. In this area, you will also find several cold and hot water springs, where you can taste some, comparing their flavors.

We will continue, according to your preference, with a visit to Parque Terra Nostra or Poça da Dona Beija, where you can relax in the therapeutic thermal waters of one of these unique locations.
